Allied

Product costing, built for offline work

Define product recipes and calculate component requirements for different production quantities.

The project

Allied’s earlier accounting environment dated to 1996 and used a command-prompt-style, 16-bit interface. Daphnis developed its replacement desktop application and carried out networking between the office and factory floor.

Inside the desktop application

Sign in to the workspace

Username and password access sits ahead of the team’s item, product and calculation tools.

Maintain item records

Item Manager provides code-based search and an entry point for creating items. The documented item model stores the item name, details and rates, including GST.

Manage users and roles

The administration screen brings user creation, role selection, password reset and account activation into one view.

From a product recipe to a costing sheet

A stored bill of materials supplies the base quantities for each calculation.

  1. Define the recipe

Associate component items and their quantities with a product code and name.

  2. Scale the components

Divide the requested production quantity by the product’s base quantity, then apply that multiplier to each component.

  3. Calculate the cost

Review component costs, total cost and GST-inclusive cost. A profit-percentage input determines the sale price per kilogram.

  4. Save, review and print

Save the item-level breakdown in the user’s calculation history. Reopen an entry or select several calculations for individual or bulk printing.

Local data and everyday desktop tools

The React interface calls Electron’s preload bridge and IPC handlers to work with local SQLite data, without a hosted backend.

  1. Save related records together

A SQLite transaction stores each calculation and its component rows together, so a failed save does not leave a partial calculation.

  2. Export master data

Export items, products and product composition as CSV files through a native save dialog.

  3. Keep frequent actions on the keyboard

F8 opens item creation, F9 opens product creation and F10 opens the calculator. F1 opens the shortcut reference.
