## Start where the work is.

### Discovery

When the process needs definition before a build can be scoped.

### Build sprint

When a defined application or next release is ready for implementation.

## A few practical questions.

### How is a custom software project priced, and what does the estimate include?

Price follows the agreed scope and the condition of the systems involved. Discovery helps define workflows, integrations, data migration, testing and release responsibilities before implementation is estimated. The proposal should identify deliverables, assumptions, review points and exclusions, including work your team or another supplier will provide. Changes to those assumptions can change the estimate. Hosting, third-party licences and ongoing maintenance are separate costs unless explicitly included; the development price should not be treated as the full cost of running the application.

### Which code, data, accounts and project assets will our team control?

Control and ownership are defined in the engagement agreement, rather than assumed from a website description. Agree repository access during delivery and the handover of source, designs, configuration and operating documentation. Identify who owns and administers hosting, domains, service accounts and billing, and how your team can access and export its data. Commissioned work, pre-existing code and third-party assets can have different licence terms. The handover should record these dependencies and transfer or revoke access through the agreed process.

### Do we need a finished specification?

No. Start with the current process, the people involved and the points where work gets stuck. Discovery can establish the scope before implementation begins.

### Can you work with our existing code?

Yes. We review its condition, access, licences and operating constraints before recommending what to keep, extend or replace. A rewrite is not assumed.

### What determines the timeline?

The agreed scope, system access, data readiness and review availability shape delivery. We identify those dependencies before committing to a release plan.

### Does the application need AI?

No. The workflow determines the implementation. AI features are scoped separately when they serve a useful task; conventional application logic may be all that is needed.

## Start with the way
the work happens.

Bring your current process, the people involved and the tools they use.
